I'm Mehmet Cenk Tunaboylu, a senior architect and BIM consultant based in Istanbul. For more than fifteen years I've designed and coordinated buildings; for the last several, I've focused on the thing that determines whether all that effort actually pays off: the information inside the model.

That focus was earned on demanding work. I led the BIM environment for the Central Bank of Azerbaijan headquarters, managed architectural delivery on the 750,000 m² Turkish Airlines campus at Istanbul Airport, and have held senior architectural and BIM roles at firms including Tabanlıoğlu, Ghafari and Tekfen, across airports, high-rises, cargo terminals and cultural buildings. Somewhere in those projects I learned exactly where BIM creates value and where it quietly wastes everyone's time. On one project, restructuring how coordination and documentation were delivered in-house saved the client on the order of $400,000 and months of programme.

I of BIM grew out of a simple conviction: a model is only as good as the information inside it. A beautiful 3D model that no one can query, validate or hand over is just an expensive drawing. So my work centres on getting the information right, defining requirements (OIR, AIR, EIR), aligning teams to ISO 19650 and open, vendor-neutral standards, and making "good data" something you can actually check rather than hope for. When the available tools fall short, I build my own, like the IDS authoring application I developed to make machine-readable information requirements practical for real projects.
